- Our repertoire
In addition to playing the traditional classical repertoire including arrangements of opera highlights and orchestral favourites, the Bacchanalia String Quartet also play a wide range of lighter styles. These include Argentinian tangos, jazz standards, folk tunes, movie themes and popular songs. Many of these pieces are specially arranged for the Quartet by our members, and as such will not be heard anywhere else. This versatility means we can adjust our performance to suit the mood of any function. For a list of some of our more popular pieces, refer to our repertoire page.

- What we need
We require four chairs without arms and an adequate level of lighting to play (being able to comfortably read a book at arms length is a good guide). Everything else we bring with us.
Due to the delicate (and expensive) nature of our instruments, we do request that for outdoor engagements some sort of shelter is available from the sun during the summer months, as well as protection from the rain. Our instrument insurance no longer covers us for damage caused to our instruments from the rain, and so failure to provide adequate cover in bad weather may unfortunately prevent us from performing.
The Bacchanalia String Quartet are a completely acoustic ensemble and amplification is usually not necessary. If however the venue is particularly large or noisy, you may wish to use free standing microphones to give the sound an “ambient lift”. In this instance, the amplification is the client’s responsibility.

- How to hear us
Although we do a few concerts every year, most of the engagements the Quartet performs are private functions, and so it is often not possible for you to hear us play before making a booking. We have however put a number of sound files on this website on the repertoire page. While this selection is more suited to wedding clients, it does give an accurate representation of the quality of the Quartet’s ability.
